ABOUT THE BAR EXAM
Format |
Format: Exam requires 2.5 days, as follows:
Essay Exam: 1.5 days
.5 day (three-hours): three "long" essay questions
.5 day (three hours): Six "short" essays
.5 day (three hours): Two MPT questions
MBE: two 3-hour sessions of 100 questions |

Essay Exam:
• Business Organizations (corporations, partnerships, associations)
• Civil Procedure
• Constitutional Law (State and Federal)
• Contracts (including Chapter 2 of the U.C.C.)
• Criminal Law and Procedure
• Evidence
• Family Law
• Real Property
• Torts (including Products Liability) |
Grading |
Passing score--140.00 or higher (the weighted essay score converted by the standard deviation method combined with the MBE scaled score by simple averaging)
Essay scores are weighted as follows:
• 30% from three long essays;
• 45% from six short essays;
• 25% from two MPTs (12.5% for each MPT question).
The essay exam and the MBE are each weighted at 50% of the total score.
If score is one point below passing (between 139.00 and 139.99): Essays are reread and the score recalculated; the recalculated score is used in final results. |
