Meet Our Tutors
Kaplan Premier's tutors are the foundation of our service.
Having graduated our rigorous training and development program,
they all share the same level of excellence: near-perfect scores
(in the 95th percentile or above), previous instructional
experience, and—most importantly—the ability to create an
interactive one-on-one learning environment based on the
individual needs of each student.
Here are just a few of the tutors who work with Kaplan Premier
students in the Pittsubrgh area. At the onset of any tutoring
program, your Academic Coordinator will conduct our Tutor
Matching Interview to find the best possible tutor for
your child.

Jenny
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Subjects Tutored: SAT Critical Reading, SAT
Writing
Tutor Since: 2003
Teaching/Tutoring Experience: Before tutoring
for Kaplan, I counseled teenage girls in a New Hampshire
detention facility. Currently, I teach yoga for UPMC employees
and several other facilities in and around Pittsburgh.
Other Applicable Experience: My experience in
the detention facility gave me an incredible understanding of
what it means to work effectively with teenagers. In addition, I
was home-schooled from fourth grade through high school, and was
often responsible for helping my younger brothers and sisters
with their schoolwork.
Hobbies/Passions: Yoga is by far my greatest
"passion." I also like to hike, backpack, and rock climb. And
what writing tutor doesn't like to read?
My Favorite Kaplan Premier Experience: I can't
choose one in particular. I love any time that I see a student
change his or her attitude over a series of lessons, to see a
shift from apprehension to confidence about an upcoming
test.
What I enjoy about tutoring with Kaplan Premier:
I like getting to know students and their families on a personal
level. I appreciate that Kaplan Premier treats each family
according to its individual needs and does not adhere to a single
formula for everyone.
Jennifer
Subjects Tutored: SAT/PSAT, ACT, SSAT/ISEE,
SAT Subject Tests, LSAT, GMAT
Teaching/Tutoring Experience: 5 years with
Kaplan, teacher trainer, trained as a supplemental education
services provider in Massachusetts
Degrees Earned: B.A. Tufts University (majors in
Math and Child Development)
Fun Fact: I met my husband at a summer program
that required the SATs as part of the admissions criteria.
Hobbies/Passions: playing with my dog, baking,
cross-stitching, sudoku, the Red Sox
Favorite KP Experience: Working with a student
with severe test anxiety. When we first started, all she wanted
to talk about was everything she was doing wrong and how many
mistakes she was making and how nervous she felt. As we worked
together and focused on the positive (how predictable the test
was, how much she knew, how hard she had been working), her
confidence improved tremendously, and by test day, she actually
felt ready and confident!
