To pass the CSET, an individual must obtain a minimum scaled
score of 220 in each of the three subtests. To ensure fairness, a
raw score (the number of questions you answered
correctly) is converted to a scaled score that reflects the
difficulty of a particular version of the exam.
On the CSET, there is no penalty for guessing, so it is
important to make your best effort to answer each question, using
the answering strategies in this book. The readers who score your
constructed responses use a focused holistic scoring methodology.
That is, they decide on the overall effectiveness of your
response, while also keeping in mind a pre-determined set of
performance characteristics they are looking for.
Your scaled score for each subtest is a
combination of your machine-scored multiple-choice answers and
your reader-scored constructed responses. If you passed a
particular subtest of the CSET, the score report will simply say
that you passed. If you did not pass, your score will be shown as
a scaled score below 220. In either case, the score report will
also provide information about your performance on the various
domains of each subtest, so that you can see which areas are
strengths and which areas need improvement.
Receiving Your Scores
It takes approximately one month for a CSET exam to be scored
and mailed or posted on the Internet. You can learn how to check
the Internet for your scores, when they become available, at
cset.nesinc.com. This website also has information about securing
additional copies of your score report(s), and about canceling or
verifying a score, as well as other score-related questions you
may have.
