Specialized High Schools Timeline

S E V E N T H G R A D E	January to May	Research NYC's Specialized High Schools Take a free Kaplan practice SHSAT Attend a free Kaplan Specialized High Schools Admissions Seminar Plan your preparation for the SHSAT. Note that students can begin their preparation early with Kaplan's 19-session SHSAT In-Depth Classroom Course or with a customized Kaplan Premier Tutoring Package.
S E V E N T H G R A D E	June to September	Receive the Directory of Public High Schools (April-September) through the guidance office or through the Office of Student Enrollment Planning and Operations. If you haven't already, start your prep for the SHSAT with a Classroom Course or a customized Premier Tutoring package.
E I G H T H G R A D E	September to October	Attend city-wide high school fair Receive Specialized High Schools applications Attend high school fairs sponsored by each borough
	Late October/Early November	Take the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT). Remember that on Test Day you will be asked to rank the schools in the order you wish to attend them.
	November	SHSAT Make-Up Test NOTE: Only with special permission. Documentation from your guidance counselor is required as to why you were unable to take the test on the assigned date.
	First week of December	High school applications due to guidance counselors
	Mid-February to Early March	Students receive SHSAT scores back and are notified of their acceptance to the Specialized High Schools. Students should return letters of acceptance to their guidance counselors.
	April to May	Students who have been placed on a wait list may receive new information about acceptance to a specialized
