Suzanne Jayaraman – English Programs
Director
Come to the Washington DC Kaplan Center! On behalf of the
English Programs staff, I want to wish you a warm welcome from
one of the most beautiful cities in the world. We are proud to
show you our city and we know that you will enjoy all that it has
to offer. In addition to the many theaters, monuments and art
galleries, Washington is also the host to many free festivals and
musical performances. If you enjoy the outdoors, you can also
spend time in one of the city's spacious parks or beautiful
gardens. The social scene of Washington is quite exciting as
well. Washington has many wonderful restaurants and nightlife.
You can salsa the night away in Adams Morgan or eat dim sum in
Chinatown. International students feel quite at home in DC's
multicultural neighborhoods.
I have been the English Programs Director at the Kaplan center
for 10 years. I have been involved in the field of International
Education for the past 20 years. My passion for working with
international students has taken me on many interesting journeys.
I have been fortunate to travel through much of Europe and East
Africa. I have enjoyed being an English teacher and a program
administrator for numerous organizations. I moved to Washington,
D.C. from Vermont after completing my Masters degree in Teaching
English and Linguistics. I came to Washington, D.C. to work for a
university, but was soon offered the opportunity direct the
English program at Kaplan. I travel a little less now that I am
married and have a child, but I truly enjoy traveling through the
lives of our students!
