Profile:

Students spend twelve months (four quarters) in their final year assigned to external clinical care sites. In 1994, the college founded the Center for the International Advancement of Optometry, which operates in Africa, Asia, and Europe. It is the most diverse international program of any college of optometry in the United States. In addition to an O.D., the school offers an Accelerated O.D. program, an International O.D. program, and a joint B.S. / O.D. program through affiliations with local undergraduate colleges.

Admissions Requirements:

At least three years of undergraduate preparation (or the credit hour equivalent), a personal statement, and three letters of recommendation are required. Required courses include:

  Chemistry with a lab - 2 semester hours
  Organic Chemistry with a lab - 1 semester hour
  Biology with a lab - 2 semester hours
  Microbiology - 1 semester hour
  Physics with a lab - 2 semester hours
  Mathematics (incl. calculus) - 2 semester hours
  Psychology - 1 semester hour
  English - 2 semester hours

It is strongly suggested that students take additional upper division courses.
