Profile:Founded in 1919 as the first
non-profit, independent college of optometry. PCO
recently instituted a new curriculum that expands
clinical experiences by 50 percent. Students
complete all course work in 2= years, followed by
1= years of off-campus externships in a variety of
private practice, hospital and group practice
settings. The school offers doctorate programs in
Optometry and Audiology, as well as masters and
certificate programs in Vision Rehabilitation,
Orientation and Mobility Therapy, Rehabilitation
Teaching, and Education of Children and Youth with
Visual and Multiple Impairments. A M.S. in Clinical
Optometry is available to international ophthalmic
practitioners.

Admissions Requirements:An applicant must
complete a minimum of 90 semester hours or 125
quarter hours of credit from an accredited
undergraduate college or university. A letter of
evaluation from the pre-health professions
committee or three letters of evaluation from
faculty members teaching natural science subjects
are required. Required courses include:
General Biology or Zoology
with labs - 1 year
General Chemistry with a lab
- 1 year
Organic Chemistry with a lab
- 1 year, but may include 1/2 year of either
Biochemistry or Molecular Biology
English Composition or
Literature - 1 year
Calculus - 1/2 year
required, 1 year recommended
Microbiology or Bacteriology
with a lab - 1/2 year
General Physics with a lab -
1 year
Psychology - 1/2 year
Statistics (Math, Biology,
or Psychology) - 1/2 year
It is strongly suggested that students take
additional upper division courses.
