Profile:

Established in 1952, accepts students in the fall only. Students take 177 semester credit hours of lectures, labs and clinics during four years. Each student handles an average of 1,500 patients during family practice, pediatric, low vision, cornea and contact lens, and medical eye rotations and externships. In addition to an O.D., the school offers M.S. and Ph.D. in Physiological Optics and eight residency programs.

Admissions Requirements:

A baccalaureate degree is required. Required courses include:

  Elementary Functions: Algebra & Trigonometry - 3 semester hours
  Calculus I - 3 semester hours
  Physics I & II with labs - 8 semester hours
  Biology/Zoology I & II with labs - 8 semester hours
  Microbiology/Bacteriology with a lab - 4 semester hours
  Advanced Animal/Human Physiology with a lab - 4 semester hours
  Human Anatomy I & II with labs - 8 semester hours
  Inorganic Chemistry I & II with labs - 8 semester hours
  Organic Chemistry with a lab - 4 semester hours
  Biochemistry - 3 semester hours
  Psychology - 3 semester hours
  Statistics with Research Design for the Biological/Physiological Sciences - 3 semester hours

It is strongly suggested that students take additional upper division courses.
