The college application process can be a daunting one. If only I had known what I know now when I approached my college applications! My experience on the admissions side of the college admissions process taught me that the most successful applications present the student as a good fit, and do so in a unique and engaging way. A student who is a good fit not only has something to offer the university, but also has the specific interests or abilities to make the most of the resources and opportunities the university has to offer; this sort of student will prove to be a success when admitted. On the other hand, my experience in college counseling offered me another lesson. When college search time arrives, some of the admissions criteria are set in stone (such as sophomore year grades) and some have yet to be decided (such as the quality of the personal statements, some standardized test scores, and senior year course selection). Such undetermined factors should be treated with utmost care, and are sure to be most effectively handled with the aid of some expert advice. After a long search and an arduous application process, I was fortunate enough to attend my first choice, Duke University. The college experience is a defining one—I am thrilled to be helping students realize their college goals. |
