The GRE Test: Fast Facts

  • The GRE is offered at over 1,000 official PrometricTM test centers around the globe, on a continuing basis year-round in many regions.
  • You’ll find three types of sections on the GRE as you begin your test prep: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Kaplan offers ways to customize your GRE prep around the sections where you need to focus most.
  • The GRE is scored in three parts: Math and Verbal scores range between 130 and 170, and Analytic Writing scores range between 0 and 6, scored in half-point increments.
  • The GRE lasts 3 hours, 45 minutes, not including short breaks. Our GRE prep options help keep you on the ball in terms of timing.
  • Your GRE score remains valid for five years, and is accepted at thousands of graduate and business schools.
  • If you’re taking the computer-delivered test, the schools you list as your designated score recipients should receive score reports about 10–15 days after your test date.
  • We recommend allowing an average of three months for your GRE prep, depending on individual factors like how long you’ve been out of school and how much free time you have each week to study.
