Here’s what a typical classroom course looks like from start to finish. Each session builds off the next, and the proctored practice tests are sure to help you feel calm and confident come test day.
Diagnostic Practice Test
The best way to get familiar with the test experience is through a live, proctored ACT. Bring your practice test book, pencils, and a graphing or scientific calculator.
You will take a full length practice test to assess your current performance, strengths, and weaknesses. With Kaplan's Mobile scoring tool, you'll get your score instantly after the test.
Afterward, log into your account on Kaptest.com to find customized study recommendations based on how you performed on the diagnostic test.
Kaplan Methods for Math, Reading, and English
Success on the ACT comes with sound strategy, confidence, and focused practice. In this first instructional session, you'll learn the Kaplan Method for Math, the Kaplan Method for Reading, and the Kaplan Method for English, refined strategic tools that will boost your confidence and enable you to complete practice questions and passages more effectively.
The Kaplan Method for Math will aid you with every question on the ACT Math test. You'll begin by applying it to questions on essential math skills.
Next, you'll learn to apply the Kaplan Method for Reading to read critically, create passages maps, and confidently predict and match correct answers in the Reading test. You'll practice this method first with Global and Inference questions.
In the last module of this session, you'll use the Kaplan Method for English to tackle questions on sentence structure and sentence formation.
Number and Quantity, Data Representation, and Punctuation
You'll start this session by applying the Kaplan Method for Math to questions on number and quantity.
You'll also be introduced to the Kaplan Method for Data Representation, which will help you ace the ACT Science test. Learn how to work effectively with Science passages that feature extensive data in graphs, tables, and other figures.
Finally, you'll apply the Kaplan Method for English to tricky punctuation questions.
Paired Passages, Conflicting Viewpoints, Algebra, and Usage
In this session, you'll learn how to tackle the required sections of the ACT. Beginning with Reading, you'll learn to crack paired passages and the questions that accompany them with the Kaplan Method for Paired Passages.
In Science, you'll learn another strategy, the Kaplan Method for Conflicting Viewpoints, so you can expertly handle passages that feature the views of multiple scientists and to efficiently answer the questions that accompany them.
Next, you'll continue applying the Kaplan Method for Math, this time to a wide variety of algebra topics.
The session concludes with usage questions in the ACT English test.
Detail and Vocab-in-Context Questions, Functions, Organization, and Topic Development
You'll start this session with more Reading strategies. Learn to apply the Kaplan Method for Reading to Detail questions and Vocab-in-Context questions.
Next up: Math, when you'll focus on applying the Kaplan Method for Math to questions on mathematical functions.
In the last half of class, you'll shift to English so you can learn apply the Kaplan Method for English to two additional areas: questions on organization, unity, and cohesion and questions on topic development.
Put all those Kaplan strategies that you've learned in class to work when you take another full length practice test to familiarize yourself even more with the content and format of the ACT.
Your performance on this test will further customize study recommendations to help you succeed in the final stretch of your test prep. Use these recommendations to refine your practice, so you can prepare for Test Day with confidence!
Research Summaries, Geometry, and Writing
The first half of this session introduces the third and final strategy that you'll learn for ACT Science: the Kaplan Method for Research Summaries. With this Kaplan Method, you'll tackle the most common passage type in Science, so you can ace questions about the design and results of multiple experiments.
You'll also spend more time prepping for ACT Math, and you'll learn everything you need to know for the optional ACT Writing test. With the Kaplan Method for ACT Writing, you'll learn how to plan, write, and revise your essay like a pro.
Statistics and Probability, Function and Writer's View Questions, Knowlege of Language, and Putting It All Together
You're in the homestretch! The final session of class begins with one last math topic: statistics and probability. Then you'll turn to the last two question types in ACT Reading: Function and Writer's View questions, which will help you get inside the head of a passage's author.
Finally, we'll pull it all together so you can look back on all that you have accomplished throughout the course. By the time Session 6 comes, you should feel confident and ready to succeed on Test Day. Be proud: College is waiting and you are well on your way. Good luck!
