California Bar Exam Information
About the Bar Exam
The California Bar Exam is a 2-day exam, consisting of five essay questions, one Performance Test, and the MBE (200 multiple choice questions). There are 2000 total points available, and an examinee must achieve a score of 1440 or higher to pass.

Bar Exam Format
The California Bar Exam is a 2-day exam.
- Days 1: Morning session consists of three one-hour essays. Afternoon session consists of two one-hour essays and one 90 minute Performance Test (PT) in the afternoon.
- Day 2: 200-question, multiple choice Multistate Bar Exam (MBE).
- MBE Subjects: Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contracts/Sales, Criminal Law/Procedure, Evidence, Real Property, Torts.
- Essay Subjects: All MBE subjects, plus Business Associations, California Civil Procedure, California Evidence, Community Property, Professional Responsibility, Remedies, Trusts, Wills and Succession.
Bar Exam Dates
In 2018, the California Bar Exam will be administered on
- February 27 & 28, 2018
- July 24 & 25, 2018
The California Bar Exam will require a minimum total score of 1,440 points (out of 2,000 available points) to pass. The MBE is weighted at 50% of the score, the Essays are weighted at 35%, and the PT is weighted at 15%.
A minimum scaled score of 86 or higher.
