About the Bar Exam
The Illinois Bar Exam is a 2-day exam. The first day consists of a morning session of three Illinois essay questions (90-minutes) and one 90-minute MPT questions, along with an afternoon session of six MEE questions. The third day is the 200-question MBE.

Bar Exam Format
The Illinois Bar Exam is a 2-day exam. Day 1: AM: Three Illinois Essays (90-minutes), one 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) question. PM: Six Multistate Essay Exam (MEE) questions. Day 2: 200-question, multiple choice Multistate Bar Exam (MBE).
MBE Subjects: Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contracts/Sales, Criminal Law/Procedure, Evidence, Real Property, Torts. Plus: administrative law; agency and partnership; business organizations, including corporations and limited liability companies; commercial paper; conflict of laws; family law; equity jurisprudence; state constitutional law; federal taxation; Illinois procedure; personal property, including sales and bailments; secured transactions; suretyship; trusts and future interests; and wills and decedents’ estates.

In 2016, the Illinois Bar Exam will be administered on
- February 23, 24 and 25, 2016
- July 26, 27 and 28, 2016
The 2016 Illinois Bar Exam will require a minimum scaled combined score of 266 points out of 400 points to pass.
A minimum scaled score of 80 or higher.
MPRE Transfer Policy
The Illinois Board of Admission to the Bar will accept a scaled score of 141 or more that was earned by an applicant on a MBE administered in another jurisdiction within the 13 months immediately preceding the current Illinois bar exam. The applicant must have passed the entire bar exam in the jurisdiction in which the MBE score was earned. Applicants opting to transfer a MBE score must take and pass the written portion of the Illinois bar exam in order to pass the exam. This means that the point of value of the transferred MBE score cannot be used to offset an inadequate performance on the written portion of the bar exam. Any Illinois bar examination applicant, including any MBE transfer applicant, who fails the Illinois bar examination, will be required to take the exam in its entirety upon re-examination.
Illinois permits admission on motion, without examination, of attorneys who have been engaged in the active, continuous, and lawful practice of law for at least five of the seven years immediately preceding the application.
