The Kaplan MCAT Team is excited to announce a new program for premedical students preparing for the MCAT – MCAT AdvantagePlus! Our new course takes all of the features of MCAT Advantage course and adds three one-on-one sessions with a Med School Mentor, and Small Study Group Sessions with MCAT experts.
The MCAT AdvantagePlus program was developed from input from students and advisors like yourself, who wanted more personalized attention during the MCAT preparation process. While our Advantage program offers a high degree of personalization, the AdvantagePlus program pairs students with a Med School Mentor who are MCAT faculty at Kaplan that are either in Medical School or M.D.s. The mentors act as personal coaches for students through the MCAT preparation process guiding students in the right direction for maximizing their MCAT score based on the students individual needs. This isn’t an original idea – personal trainers have been popular at the gym for years, but much like a personal trainer, the Mentor will make sure that each student they work with one-on-one is doing everything right, and at the right time to avoid burnout, but more importantly to maximize their MCAT performance potential.
Coupled with the one-on-one mentoring, are our new Small Study Group Sessions. At critical points in their preparation, students will meet in their study group to get personalized and live explanations to the questions and topics they are specifically having trouble with. Studies have shown that students who study in small instructor led groups reach their learning goals more efficiently, and the small group sessions are designed to harness that potential.
The role of the mentors and the small group study leaders will in no way undermine the coaching students receive from their premedical advisors – you – but since these mentors and coaches will be in or recently graduated from medical school, we are hoping they will provide motivation and another perspective to our future doctors.
