The Association of American Medical Colleges, the organization that writes the MCAT,  has data to suggest that your students’ majors simply don’t matter all that much when it comes to getting accepted to medical school – your score on the MCAT is much more important. Great news for non-traditional applicants. (U.S. News & World Report)

Each year hundreds of students in medical school wrongly believe they have contracted the exact diseases they are studying. Is this just understandable hypochondria? What’s going on? (The New York Times)

Yes, there’s a doctor shortage, but things are looking up…in New York State at least. The AAMC of New York recently reported 2,424 new medical students this fall, an increase of 120 from last year. (The Journal News)

A new study finds that college biology textbooks are aimed at the pre-med student. “These general education students are getting a lot about cell division mitosis from their textbooks when they really should be learning about things like personalized medicine, evolution and the impact of climate change,” said the study’s author.
