graduate-advisor-lsatHere is some of the latest, most interesting news about the law school admissions process and legal education from media outlets across the country. Never a dull moment! Here’s what’s going on:

Kaplan Test Prep’s recently released its 2013 survey of law school admissions officers. Kaplan has been doing this every year since 2006 so that pre-law students have the most accurate, up-to-date information on the admissions process.  Among the major findings: law school overwhelmingly think legal education needs to undergo “significant changes.” (The Washington Business Journal)  You can find the full Kaplan survey results here.

And speaking of changes at law schools, the American Bar Association is moving to require universal release to law schools of name-specific bar exam pass-fail information. The ABA is also considering a proposed new standard that would require law schools to show that 80% of their graduates who took a bar exam in the two years after the year of their graduation passed. (The ABA Journal)

And while we’re on the topic of the ABA…will recent changes that they are calling for affect the U.S. News & World Report law school rankings for 2014? Expect those new rankings out early to mid next year. March or April, most likely. (Inside Higher Ed)

One major legal publication picked the seven best law school references this year in Congress, where more than two-fifths of the lawmakers are lawyers. (The National Law Journal)

Count this dean from the Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane.as a supporter of the idea to cut law schools from three years down to two years. As you recall, this is something President Barack Obama has suggested too. (The Seattle Times)
