LSAC (the body that administers the LSAT) looked at three ABA-approved law schools in Puerto Rico. These schools require that applicants take the LSAT in English, but since the courses at these schools (The Inter American University School of Law, the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico School of Law, and the university of Puerto Rico School of Law) are primarily taught in Spanish, LSAC decided to offer a version of the exam in Spanish; the goal is help law schools in Puerto Rico make informed decisions about a candidate.
As of this writing, the exam in Spanish will be given only once – in February 2014. After the test is administered, LSAC will review the data from that exam and decide if it will administer future tests in Spanish. At the time that this test was announced, there were a few restrictions on its administration and usage. The Spanish language LSAT will be administered only at test centers in Puerto Rico. In addition, scores from this test will be reportable only to schools within Puerto Rico; the scores cannot be used for schools in the 50 United States or Canada. As a result, any person living in Puerto Rico and considering schools there as well as the 50 states and Canada will need to take the LSAT in English.
