GRE Studying

Welcome, graduate program advisors!  In early August we held a live, online event, “Preparing students for graduate school and updates to the GRE.”  From this recording, you’ll get our perspective on the factors graduate programs are looking for in a candidate, including qualitative measures such as “fit,” “diversity of background and experience,” “potential for career growth and leadership” and “essays, recommendations and interviews.”  We also run through the importance of the role of quantitative measures in graduate school acceptance, including a strong academic record, post-baccalaureate work, and standardized test scores.

You can also download our graduate school admissions roadmap to share with advisees. the Roadmap is a great was for graduate school applicants to get to know “what to do when”.  One of the biggest mistakes graduate school applicants make is procrastination.  With grad school applications, the more proactive and organized an applicant is, the more likely he or she will have great results – both in terms of admissions and financial aid.

Another key update for you and your constituents are updated to the GRE scoring scale. Small improvements in number of questions answered correctly lead to major increases in score on the GRE, so it’s important that test takers do all the little things right to maximize their scores and catapult over the hundreds of thousands of other test takers each year.  Watch our recording to learn all the latest, and at the end of the recording you’ll find more helpful resources for your advisees to use to navigate the grad school admissions and financial aid processes.
