Stricter Cell Phone Policy for NCLEX® Exam Day

April 25, 2013

Students are often surprised to learn of restrictions to cell phone usage at the testing center on NCLEX day.  While it’s hard for people to exist without cell phones, the security of the test and the testing site are paramount.  Currently, candidates agree not to access cell/mobile/smart phones, pagers or other electronic devices during the exam (including breaks).  They are instructed to keep their phones in their provided locker and are reminded that they cannot access the phones at any point during the exam.  Violations of this rule can warrant a cancellation of test results. Instituted in March, the new cell phone policy requires candidates to store their electronic devices in their locker in a sealable bag. This bag is provided to the candidate at check-in by the test administrator (TA) and is inspected by the TA at the end of the exam. The candidate is notified that any evidence of bag tampering will result in an incident, which could lead to a result cancellation.

If there is no evidence of tampering with the bag, the candidate will be permitted to remove item(s) from the bag, and the TA will dispose of the bag at the test center. If there is evidence of tampering, an incident will be reported and further investigation will take place.  This extra measure is intended to prevent candidates from accidentally tampering with their phone/device.
