Norman_Rockwell_Mural_(Marion_County,_Oregon_scenic_images)_(marDA0166)The holiday season begins, and the team at “Educators in Nursing” would like to be among the first to wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving! We are so grateful to have the opportunity to work with nurses, educators and students who truly want to make a difference and help people heal both body and soul.

This year is extra special, because state boards across the country are celebrating significant anniversaries, and we’d like to highlight them….

Congratulations to Nevada for 90 years! The state is exceptionally proud of the commitment it’s made to advancing nursing practice and education. “NNA [Nevada Nurses Association] wishes to recognize and congratulate the Nevada Schools of Nursing, their faculty and students, the Nevada State Board of Nursing, and all the community partners involved in achieving a 94.37% pass rate on the NCLEX exam. Nevada had been number 46 on the pass rate list prior to 2012 and is now only second to Oregon by a 0.03% margin. This is an incredible success for Nursing in Nevada and demonstrates a strong commitment to quality and patient outcome.” says NNA President, Scott Lamprecht DNP, MSN, RN.

Arkansas joins the anniversary celebration with a full century of service! “Established by the Arkansas Legislature in 1913 to safeguard the life and health of its citizens, the Arkansas State Board of Nursing achieves its mission by developing standards for safe nursing care, approval of nursing schools and regulating licenses to practice nursing.” http://www.arsbn.arkansas.gov/aboutUs/Pages/default.aspx

The Arkansas Board of Nursing has included a look back as part of its year-long celebration, and has included these tidbits in its monthly publication:

• As of October 30, 1913, the Board had approved certificates of registration for 287 nurses. (Today, there are over 47,000 licenses issued!)

• In 1919 the registration fee for taking the examination was $5.00.

• Effective January 1, 1920, accredited training schools had to be connected with a general hospital or sanitarium having not less than twenty-five beds for patients and a daily average of not less than 15 patients. The number of student nurses in any one school [could] not be less than ten.

If we missed your state, please share your celebration with us!  Anniversaries are always special, but nursing organization celebrations are among our favorites!   Best wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration to you and yours from all of us!
