Meet Your Kaplan Partners in Nursing…From the first day of Nursing School until the NCLEX® we work with you for the success of your students!
As we approach the first anniversary of our Partners in Nursing e-newsletter (turned Educators In Nursing blog) in September, we wanted to use this issue to reacquaint both our veteran and new readers with all that Kaplan has to offer you and your students.
People most often associate the name “Kaplan” with NCLEX® prep, and we are thrilled that you know us for our high-quality, effective NCLEX-RN® and NCLEX-PN® prep programs. What some of you may not know is that as your partner in nursing Kaplan is able to provide much more to nursing students and faculty than end-of-the-year NCLEX® prep, and with Kaplan you have a dedicated team of people working throughout the year to make sure you and your students have the best outcomes possible.
Health Programs Managers are the “student facing” side of Kaplan. “HPMs” work with students and faculty to get students into the NCLEX® prep classes that afford the most convenience and suitability, but even before the class HPMs are working with schools to set up valuable seminars to help students flourish in nursing school. For new students we offer our “Nursing School Success” workshop which includes study tips, note-taking improvements and can even include clinical survival advice if requested. Newer (and veteran!) students can also benefit from our “Critical Thinking Workshop” which guides students in making the leap from strict content memorization to information processing and assimilation. All students can benefit from our “Career Seminar” which features tips for resumes, job hunting and interviewing, and includes a comprehensive discussion on rules for social media.
For students closer to graduation, our NCLEX® Practice Test is a great way for students to get introduced to test questions. Not only do students receive a predictive score, but they also receive comprehensive explanations to all correct and incorrect responses so that students can go back and remediate after testing —a hallmark of all of our tests. Our NCLEX® Strategy Seminar focuses on the structure of the NCLEX®, how the test is scored, sample questions and test-strategy. This seminar is best done within the last year for RN students or in the second half of a PN program so students have more opportunity to use the content portion of the review questions to help with studies. The advice we give at our seminars is vetted by our nurse educator team and reinforces the great information you’ve been providing. When students hear the information for a second time from someone from outside of the school the information seems to resonate even more, and the approach of graduation and the NCLEX® becomes more tangible.
By having us present these sessions on campus, schools give students an opportunity to earn a great discount off of our courses. We also partner with schools to provide scholarships to deserving students. Schools can nominate a student rep—a deserving student who can gain leadership and organizational skills while earning a scholarship for a free Kaplan NLCEX® review!
As an added benefit, schools can work with Kaplan to turn these events into fundraising activities. Kaplan provides all resources for free, but many SNA groups have organized very successful fundraisers around the practice tests. Each student pays a fee directly to the SNA, and the SNA is able to use the funds to cover costs of activities. Schools have added raffles and “basket bingo” to make the events more entertaining!
Working closely with HPMs are our Regional Account Directors (RADs). RADs are the “faculty facing” part of the Kaplan team. These people are dedicated to working with schools to provide evidenced-based benchmark testing and enrichment programs throughout nursing school that provide great structure in remediation and outcomes. Through our Integrated Testing, Kaplan Nursing and Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), a leading international nursing publisher, bring you and your school the most comprehensive, results-oriented program for nursing student success—from admission to licensure. Schools using Kaplan’s Integrated Testing receive guidance from a dedicated Nursing Consultant, an experienced nurse educator specially trained to help faculty customize our program to meet a school’s curriculum needs, assist with faculty training to use the program effectively, and provide consultations when accreditation time rolls around. A Service Specialist is also available to help manage the operational aspects of the program. While it’s true that conventions are a great way for us to meet more people, we also know that conventions are an incredible education resource for students and faculty, and we want to support these important events!
Finally, we hope you’ve been taking advantage of our faculty programs that award CEUs. Events are held both live online and onsite, and provide insight into the NCLEX.
