Happy National Nurses Week! What a wonderful chance for us at Kaplan Nursing to thank you for all you do to advance nursing education and practice. And what a year this has been for nursing education and for nursing students getting ready to join the ranks of RNs and LP/VNs!
Just over a month ago on April 1st, we observed two significant occurrences. Not only was it the day when the NCLEX-PN® saw the increase of the passing standard and change to the test plan, but it also marked the 20th anniversary of the first National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) NCLEX Examination administered via computerized adaptive testing (CAT)! Back in 1994, NCSBN was the first organization to implement CAT technology for nationwide licensure examination. Since then, more than 4.3 million candidates for nurse licensure have taken the exam domestically and internationally.1
Last year’s May RN grads were among the first to take to updated NCLEX-RN® which saw an increase to the passing standard and modification of the test plan. Since then we’ve been checking in to see how the national pass rate has been affected. One thing is for sure, the NCSBN definitely recognizes that the role of nurses continues to change, and it has repeatedly acknowledged that the field itself doesn’t stay the same, “Nursing is a dynamic, continually evolving discipline that employs critical thinking to integrate increasingly complex knowledge, skills, technologies, and client care activities into evidence-based nursing practice.”2
