About the Bar Exam
Idaho has adopted the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE®). It is a two-day exam, which takes place on the last Tuesday and Wednesday of February and July. The Multistate Essay Exam (MEE®) and the Multistate Performance Tests (MPT®) are administered on Tuesday; the Mulitstate Bar Exam (MBE®) is administered on Wednesday.

Bar Exam Format
The Idaho Bar Exam is a two-day exam:
- Day 1: AM: Six Multistate Essay Exam (MEE®) essays; PM: Two Multistate Performance Tests (MPT®s).
- Day 2: 200-question, multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam (MBE®).
Subjects Tested
Business Associations (Agency and Partnership; Corporations and Limited Liability Companies), Civil Procedure, Conflict of Laws, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Family Law, Real Property, Torts, Trusts and Estates (Decedents' Estates; Trusts and Future Interests), and Uniform Commercial Code (Secured Transactions).
Bar Exam Dates
- 2024: July 30-31,
- 2025: February 25-26, and July 29-30
Grading
The Idaho Bar Exam will require a minimum scaled combined score of 270 points out of 400 points to pass. The MBE® is weighted at 50% of the score, the Essays are weighted at 30%, and the MPT®s are weighted at 20%.
MPRE®
A minimum passing scaled score is 85 or higher. MPRE® Policy: The acceptable MPRE® score must be earned prior to taking the bar exam or within the next two Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination administrations after successfully completing the bar exam.
Reciprocity
The Idaho State Bar will accept transferred MBE® scores earned in another jurisdiction or from a previous unsuccessful attempt at the Idaho Bar Exam. The MBE® must have been taken within 37 months prior to the date of the Idaho bar examination for which an applicant is applying. Idaho recommends that only MBE® scaled scores of 136 or higher be transferred. In order to be admitted to practice law without taking the Idaho bar examination, a Reciprocal Applicant must show to the satisfaction of the Board that he or she:
- Has met the qualifications for admission under Rule 202;
- Has passed a written bar examination and was admitted as an attorney by the highest court in any state or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia that grants reciprocal admission under provisions substantially similar to this rule to attorneys licensed in Idaho;
- Has been substantially engaged in the Active Practice of Law In Idaho or under the authority of another jurisdiction that grants admission to attorneys licensed in Idaho under provisions substantially similar to this rule for no less than three of the five years immediately preceding the Application;
- Possesses the moral character and fitness required of all other Applicants for admission;
- Has paid all required Application fees and costs; and
- Has not failed the Idaho bar examination in the five years immediately preceding the Application.
