About the Bar Exam
The Indiana Bar Exam is a two-day exam. It takes place on the last Tuesday and Wednesday of February and July. The State Essays and MPT®s (Multistate Performance Test) take place on Tuesday and the MBE® (Multistate Bar Exam) takes place on Wednesday.

Bar Exam Format
The Indiana Bar Exam is a two-day exam:
- Tuesday AM: 2 MPT®s (Multistate Performance Test); PM: 6 Indiana Essays.
- Wednesday: the MBE® (Multistate Bar Exam) AM: 100 Questions; PM: 100 Questions.
Business organizations (Agency, Corporations, Partnership)
Federal and state personal income tax, corporate tax, and estate and gift tax
Indiana constitutional law
Indiana employment law, including wage payment and wage claim statutes
Indiana debt collection, including garnishment, attachment, and bankruptcy exemptions
Residential landlord-tenant law
Pleading and practice, including statutes of limitation and the Indiana Tort Claims Act
Wills, trusts and estates
Bar Exam Dates
- February 25 - February 26, 2020
- July 28 - July 29, 2020
The MPT® accounts for 20%, the Indiana Essay Examination accounts for 30%, and the MBE® accounts for 50% of the overall exam score. Passage is a combined scaled score of 264.
A minimum passing scaled score is 80 or higher.
Indiana permits admission by motion. Applicant must have actively engaged in the practice of law for a period of at least five of the seven years immediately preceding the date of application.
