About the Bar Exam
Iowa has adopted the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE®), with the only difference being that it has a third day that comes before the two UBE days. It is a three-day exam, and takes place on the last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of February and July. Monday is a mandatory orientation day. The Multistate Essay Exam (MEE®) and the Multistate Performance Tests (MPT®s) are administered on Tuesday; the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE®) is administered on Wednesday.

The Iowa bar is a three-day exam; with the first day being utilized as a mandatory orientation.
Day 2: AM: Two Multistate Performance Tests (MPT®s) PM: Six Multistate Essay Exam (MEE®) essays.
Day 3: 200-question, multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam (MBE®).

Grading
A Minimum UBE® Scaled score of 266 is required. The MBE® is weighted at 50%; with Essays weighted at 30% and the MPT®s weighted at 20%.

MPRE®
A scaled score of 80 or higher is required.

Reciprocity
Applicants seeking to transfer a UBE® score of 266 or above may file an application for admission by transferred UBE® score. The transfer application fee is $900.
The UBE® score must either be (1) from a UBE® administered within two years immediately preceding the transfer application filing date or (2) it will be accepted up to five years after the UBE® administration if you have been regularly engaged in the practice of law for at least two of the last three years immediately preceding the transfer application filing date.
