About the Bar Exam
The Michigan Bar Exam is a two-day exam. It takes place on the last Tuesday and Wednesday of February and July. The Michigan Essay exam is administered on Tuesday, and the MBE® (Multistate Bar Exam) is administered on Wednesday.

Bar Exam Format
The Michigan Bar Exam is a two-day exam.
- Day 1: AM: Nine Michigan essays PM: Six Michigan essays.
- Day 2: 200-question, multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam (MBE®).
Real Property, Personal Property, Wills, Trusts, Contracts, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Corporations, Partnerships, Agency, Evidence, Creditor's Rights, Michigan Practice and Procedure, Federal Civil Procedure, Equity, Torts, No-Fault Insurance, Contracts/Sales, Negotiable Instruments (UCC 3), Secured Transactions (UCC 9), Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct, Domestic Relations, Conflicts of Laws, and Worker's Compensation.
Bar Exam Dates
The Michigan Bar Exam will be administered on:
- July 27-28, 2021
- February 22-23, 2022
Your combined score must be a 135 or higher to pass. There is no minimum passing score for either the multistate portion or the essay portion.
The minimum passing scaled score is 85 or higher.
Michigan permits admission by motion. After being licensed, the applicant must have actively practiced law for 3 of the 5 years preceding the application.
