Nevada Bar Exam Information
About the Bar Exam
The Nevada Bar Exam is transitioning from a traditional multi-day sitting to a modular, competency-based pathway called the Nevada Comprehensive Licensing Examination (commonly known as "The Nevada Plan"). Applicants complete separate components on a flexible schedule within a six-year eligibility window. Select components can now be started while still enrolled in law school.

Bar Exam Format
Licensure under the Nevada Plan is split into four distinct requirements:
- Foundational Law Examination (FLE): A 4-hour, 100-question multiple-choice exam evaluating core legal doctrine (eligible to take after completing 42 law school credits).
- Lawyering Performance Examination (LPE): A 1-day, 6-hour exam consisting of three practical scenarios that test legal research, drafting, factual analysis, and problem-solving using provided closed-universe materials.
- Supervised Practice Program (SPP): A mandatory experiential component requiring 40+ hours of supervised, client-facing legal work under a licensed Nevada attorney, alongside a self-directed learning project.
- Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE): A 2-hour, 60-question ethics exam requiring a minimum scaled score of 85.
Subjects Tested
Foundational Doctrinal Law (FLE): Core legal subjects including Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Contracts/Sales, Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Real Property, and Torts.
Lawyering Competencies & Practical Skills (LPE): Objective legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, strategic analysis, client communication, persuasive legal writing, and professional ethics.
Bar Exam Dates
Under the Nevada Plan, individual licensing components are administered on separate schedules rather than during a single multi-day sitting:
Foundational Law Exam (FLE): Offered 4 times per year (typically February, May, October, and December) at Prometric centers nationwide.
Lawyering Performance Exam (LPE): Administered 2 times per year (typically January and June) in-person in Nevada.
Supervised Practice Program (SPP): Managed via rolling seasonal submission cycles (Summer and Fall).
Grading
Each component under the Nevada Plan is scored and passed independently.
MPRE®
A minimum passing scaled score is 85 or higher.
MPRE® Transfer Policy: The MPRE® score that you are trying to use must be within the last 2 years.
Reciprocity
Nevada has no reciprocity or admission by motion of any kind.
Other Requirements
6-Year Completion Window: All four components (FLE, LPE, SPP, and MPRE) must be completed within a 6-year window extending from 3 years before to 3 years after the year the applicant passes the LPE.
Retired Essay Requirement: The former rule requiring a scaled score of 75 or higher on at least three essay questions is no longer applicable, as traditional essays have been replaced by the Lawyering Performance Exam.
