About the Bar Exam
South Carolina has adopted the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE®). It is a two-day exam, which takes place on the last Tuesday and Wednesday of February and July. The Multistate Essay Exam (MEE®) and the Multistate Performance Tests (MPT®) are administered on Tuesday; the Mulitstate Bar Exam (MBE®) is administered on Wednesday.

Bar Exam Format
The South Carolina Bar Exam is a two-day exam.
- Day 1: AM: Two Multistate Performance Tests (MPT®s) PM: Six Multistate Essay Exam (MEE®) essays.
- Day 2: 200-question, multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam (MBE®).

Grading
The South Carolina Bar Exam will require a minimum scaled combined score of 266 points out of 400 points to pass. The MBE® is weighted at 50% of the score, the Essays are weighted at 30%, and the MPT®s are weighted at 20%.

A minimum passing scaled score is 77 or higher.

Reciprocity
Applicants who have obtained at least a 266 on the UBE® in another jurisdiction may apply for admission. An applicant has three years from the date of the exam to transfer the UBE® score to South Carolina.

Other Requirements
Applicants seeking admission to practice law in South Carolina pursuant to Rule 402, SCACR, must complete the Course of Study on South Carolina Law as a requirement of admission. The Course of Study is a series of online videos available on the South Carolina Bar's website. Only applicants who have filed a complete Application for Admission are permitted access to the Course of Study videos. Once an applicant has filed a complete Application for Admission, the applicant will be sent a link to the Course of Study and registration information to access the Course of Study.
An applicant's successful completion of the Course of Study on South Carolina Law may be used to satisfy the requirements of Rule 402 for applications filed within three (3) years of the date of completion of the Course of Study.
