About the Bar Exam
New Hampshire has adopted the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE®). It is a two-day exam, which takes place on the last Tuesday and Wednesday of February and July. The Multistate Essay Exam (MEE®) and the Multistate Performance Tests (MPT®) are administered on Tuesday; the Mulitstate Bar Exam (MBE®) is administered on Wednesday.

Bar Exam Format
The New Hampshire Bar Exam is a two-day exam.
Day 1: AM: Two Multistate Performance Tests (MPT®s) PM: Six Multistate Essay Exam (MEE®) essays.
Day 2: 200-question, multiple-choice Multistate Bar Exam (MBE®).
Subjects Tested
Business Associations (Agency and Partnership; Corporations and Limited Liability Companies), Civil Procedure, Conflict of Laws, Constitutional Law, Contracts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Family Law, Real Property, Torts, Trusts and Estates (Decedents' Estates; Trusts and Future Interests), and Uniform Commercial Code (Secured Transactions).
Bar Exam Dates
The New Hampshire Bar Exam will be administered on:
- 2024: July 30-31,
- 2025: February 25-26, and July 29-30
Grading
The New Hampshire Bar Exam will require a minimum scaled combined score of 270 points out of 400 points to pass. The MBE® is weighted at 50% of the score, the Essays are weighted at 30%, and the MPT®s are weighted at 20%.
MPRE®
A minimum passing scaled score of 79 or higher.
Reciprocity
New Hampshire permits admission on motion, without examination, for applicants who have practiced for five of the preceding seven years, are admitted to practice in one or more jurisdiction, and have graduated from an ABA-approved law school, and have satisfied the MPRE® requirement prior to the the Motion being filed.
An applicant who sat for the UBE® in another jurisdiction may transfer the score earned on the examination to New Hampshire in lieu of taking the UBE® exam. An applicant has three years from the date of the exam to transfer the UBE® score to New Hampshire. UBE® scores between three to five years will be accepted if the applicant was primarily engaged in the practice of law and a member of good standing for at least two years.
There are separate rules for Admission by Motion for Vermont and Maine lawyers without taking the examination.
