  • 2024: July 30-31,
  • 2025: February 25-26, and July 29-30

The Tennessee Bar Exam requires a minimum scaled combined score of 270 points out of 400 points to pass. The MBE® is weighted at 50% of the score, the Essays are weighted at 30%, and the MPT®s are weighted at 20%.

Beginning with the July 2018 examination, the minimum passing scaled score is 82 or higher. Scores are valid for two years from the date of administration of the MPRE®.

Admission by Transferred UBE® Score: Applicants who have obtained at least a 270 on the UBE® in another jurisdiction may apply for admission. UBE® scores are valid for admission for three years from the date grades were released in Tennessee for the exam in which the score was earned. You must complete all requirements for admission within that time or your scores expire; however, if you are licensed in another jurisdiction, you may use an expired UBE® score if you have practice for three of the preceding five years.

Admission without Examination (Comity): Comity admission is governed by Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 7, Article V. An applicant must have been engaged in the active practice of law as defined in Rule 7 for five of the seven years immediately preceding the application and must meet the education and character and fitness requirements of Rule 7. See Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 7, Article V for all requirements.

Applicants must complete the Tennessee Law course to be eligible for admission. The Tennessee Law Course is an online course on Tennessee-specific law that takes approximately 7.5 hours to complete.
