Fall 2020 Updates: How Kaplan Nursing Prepared for a Digital School Year

by Susan Sanders, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, Vice President of Kaplan Nursing | August 20, 2020

This back to school season is a little different than others. At Kaplan, we’re reimagining how we can best support students and institutions this school year. Together, we have the opportunity to shape the future of nursing education, and to move from a time of change and transition to a time of new stability―from the old ways of doing things to the new, digital normal. Read on for some exciting updates from Kaplan for the 2020-2021 school year.

New Online Exams

In response to customer requests, we have updated all Kaplan RN Focused Review tests, designed to provide students essential content review through formative testing in a remote environment. All questions are brand new, and written to reflect current nursing practice. The prepopulated tests with multiple versions are leveled in difficulty progressing from easy to hard based on Bloom’s Taxonomy.

We have also developed and field tested 10 brand new, secure RN benchmark exams which will be available for use in October 2020. Subjects span across the nursing curriculum, including OB, Management/Professional Issues, Community, Transitions, Nursing Assessment Test, Nutrition, Gerontology, Pathophysiology, Pediatrics, and Research. We offer live, remote proctoring options to provide institutions the opportunity to administer our secure exams.

Virtual Simulation

Virtual simulation serves as a supplement to clinical hours, and can also be used didactically throughout your curriculum to keep students engaged in a remote learning environment. Our i-Human Patients team has been working hard all summer to release some exciting updates to our virtual client encounter cases in time for the Fall 2020 semester.

Enhanced Faculty Dashboard

Our new, personalized faculty dashboard is now live―allowing faculty to easily navigate our all-digital Kaplan Nursing Faculty resources. All improvements were made with feedback from current faculty through extensive user testing, and incorporate best practice User Experience (UX) design principles.

Live Online NCLEX Prep Solutions

Live Online learning is the new normal for many, but it’s nothing new for us. We’ve been teaching nursing students in online classrooms for over a decade. Since the pandemic, we've leveraged our live online learning platform to offer NCLEX preparation in a completely digital environment, offering thousands of hours of Live Online instruction to nursing students. We are proud to report that our Live Online courses have garnered overall extremely positive feedback, and we plan to continue to offer this option to institutions throughout the 2020-2021 school year.

Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) Preparation

If all of these new features isn’t enough we haven’t forgotten to continue our preparations for Next Generation NCLEX. We are continuing to write new NGN items and develop incorporation of the Clinical Judgment Model into our NCLEX Review Course.

Rest assured, as you navigate this next chapter in nursing education and face many uncertainties ahead, one thing remains the same—we're here to help. If you are not yet a Kaplan partner and would like to learn more about our suite of services, request a demo today.
