MCAT Tutor Debbie Brown

DEBBIE BROWN

Haverford College

Debbie majored in chemistry at Haverford College and scored in the 99th percentile on the MCAT. She received a master’s degree in chemistry from Caltech and a master’s degree in human genetics (counseling) from the University of Pittsburgh's School of Public Health. She has been teaching for Kaplan for 18 years and loves helping a "number" stop being a barrier to a student's goals. When she's not teaching and tutoring for Kaplan, she's teaching and tutoring her own home-schooled genetics projects.

LSAT Tutor Ae-Ri Kim

AE-RI KIM

University of Western Ontario

Ae-Ri holds a bachelor’s in biological sciences, and a PhD in structural biochemistry from the University of Western Ontario. She scored in the 90th percentile on the MCAT. Since joining Kaplan, Aeri has expanded her test expertise, and has scored in or above the 90th percentile on the PCAT, SAT, and ACT exams; thus allowing her to guide more Kaplan students. She is committed to getting everyone excited and comfortable with the ins-and-outs of science content and critical thinking skills. When Ae-Ri is not teaching and tutoring for Kaplan, she is busy reading, drinking copious amounts of coffee, and corralling her three young children.

MCAT Tutor Sarah Kang

SARAH KANG

Case Western Reserve University

Sarah is currently a medical student at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She achieved her bachelor's degrees in microbiology and history of art. After achieving her dream MCAT score, thanks to a Kaplan course, she decided to pass on her excellent experience by teaching other pre-medical students the same strategies that worked for her! Her favorite part of teaching for Kaplan is working with students to discover their unique story and help them achieve their goals. When Sarah is not tutoring, she is concentrating on her own medical education, and sharpening her knowledge in the arts.

MCAT Tutor Jim Owens

JIM OWENS

Stetson University

Jim has been teaching and tutoring for Kaplan for over two decades. He has taught and/or tutored thousands of students in the MCAT, PCAT, OAT, DAT, LSAT, GMAT, and GRE. He began tutoring math when he was in second grade, which helped to spark his love of teaching. Jim believes that tutoring and learning is a dialogue in which both parties come away bigger, better, and stronger. When he is not engaging with his Kaplan students, Jim spends his time practicing law as an attorney in Texas and New York, and spending time with his wife and daughter.

MCAT Tutor Uneeb Qureshi

UNEEB QURESHI

Uniformed Services University

Uneeb has been helping students achieve pre-med success since 2012. He joined Kaplan as an MCAT instructor with a score in the 95th percentile. As he sharpened his test expertise skills, he branched out into teaching and tutoring PCAT, DAT, and OAT, after achieving scores on these exams in or above the 90th percentile. As a third-year medical student at Uniformed Services University, he is able to share a unique perspective with students about the merits of military medical training. He holds a bachelor's with honors in biochemistry from the University of Maryland, and was a Teach for America corps member from 2011 – 2014.

MCAT Tutor Tami Miller

TAMI MILLER

University of Colorado

Tami has been teaching with Kaplan since 1999 and draws her passion for teaching from the success of her students. Tami received her degree from the University of Colorado in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology. She scored in the 93% percentile on the MCAT. While obtaining her degree and for several years afterward, she tutored students at the university in a variety of subjects. Once she joined Kaplan, she decided to make teaching her career. In her spare time, Tami likes to spin yarn from wool, crochet, knit, backpack, read, and participate in daily CrossFit classes.

MCAT Tutor Sumir Desai

SUMIR DESAI

Emory University

Sumir joined the Kaplan team in 2012 as an MCAT instructor. His passion to see his students succeed is immediately apparent upon first impression and his contagious enthusiasm keeps students motivated throughout their entire prep. Never to shy from a challenge, Sumir has since worked to expand his area of expertise to teach the OAT, PCAT, and DAT by scoring in or above the 90th percentile on each exam. Sumir is a Florida boy at heart, spending his time outside of Kaplan, enjoying the sun.

MCAT Tutor Nikolai Dorofeev

NIKOLAI DOROFEEV

Saba University

Dr. Nikolai Dorofeev has been teaching and tutoring for Kaplan since 2008. After earning a B.Sc. in molecular genetics, he spent a summer prepping for the MCAT. The outcome of that was not only an excellent score, but also a realization that the right approach to test prep may turn a dreaded chore into an enlightening experience. After getting his M.D., he realized another thing: teaching students is similar to treating patients. Everyone has his/her own strengths and opportunities. He finds that students often seem to approach test problems in their own, convoluted way, but once he spends time understanding their logic, more often than not, he’s able to say, “That's actually smart, I did not even think of that from this perspective!" These are the moments he loves.
