Jonathan Bruner, D.O. (he/him)

Jonathan was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, and is a third-generation osteopathic physician. His career path has been most influenced by an interest in both science and education. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry, from the School of Education. Becoming a physician was the natural intersection of his interests, so he went on to graduate from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine before completing his residency in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM) there as well.  Jonathan has practiced and worked as an associate professor for 15+ years and also worked as a residency director for two ONMM programs. He then transitioned out of clinical medicine to put more focus on his love of medical education. Learn more about Jonathan Bruner, D.O.

John Bloodworth, M.D. (he/him/his)

Senior Director, Content Development

John earned his M.D. from Ross University School of Medicine in 2010, joining Kaplan full-time soon after to lead the curriculum team’s effort to keep our PowerPoint, videos, and products up-to-date and great. In 2019, his role evolved to include managing assessment content as well. He has enjoyed working with faculty over the years to deliver high-quality instruction to our students, honored that so many people from around the world entrust Kaplan with their career pursuits. Feel free to email John with any questions about the content found in your students’ courses or to inquire about gaining access to become familiar with Kaplan’s online resources. He lives in Tacoma, WA, with his wife, two kids, and dog and welcomes any visitors to the PNW to reach out for a coffee, donut, or hike!

Ilon Rincón-Portas, M.D. (they/them/theirs)

Executive Director Medical Campus

Ilon Rincón-Portas graduated as an M.D. in Venezuela, where they worked as an Emergency/Expedition Doctor working in different settings, including a year in the Amazon jungle. In January 2009, they moved to the United States, took the Steps, and started working for Kaplan Medical in 2010 as an integral part of the Curriculum Development Team, creating medical content for all USMLE steps and teaching students and medical faculty with a particular interest in clinical skills. Dr. Ilon Rincón-Portas spent the first pandemic years assisting efforts to provide healthcare, testing, and vaccination to underserved communities in New York City. They are currently working as the Executive Director of Kaplan's Medical Campus and serve on the board of Immigration Equality. During their free time, Dr. Ilon is a visual artist and photographer.
